Kine says: Mio was born on April 6, 2006. Her mom, Mia, is starting to get pretty old and was really weak after giving birth to three kittens. Mio was the only one lucky enough to stay alive, but she was really weak, and her mom was too exhausted to take care of her newborn. I spent the first day with Mio in a towel, rubbing her to keep her warm. Luckily, her mom got better and started to take care of her, but for the first few months we had to feed her with a bottle. Today Mio is a very happy and energetic cat! She loves playing outside and cuddling with my mom and me. She won't let anyone else touch her silky fur though. She lives here at home in Norway with us, her mom Mia, her grandmother Samba, and our tuxedo cat Rambo.

Awwwwwwwwwww!!
Brian -
Is there a good reason why you are letting such an old cat give birth and endanger her own and her kittens health? Have you you never heard of spay/ neuter????
Kate P -
I agree with Brian, this is one of the most frustrating things I have ever read.
Jayne -
Horrible story. Why did you let her have kittens? This seems more like animal abuse.
Kephara -
Better question: Why all the rebukes? This is a site to share and enjoy photos of lovely little kitties and Kine has done just that. Thanks for letting us see these beauties!!!!
Jaki -
Mio is adorable. This isn't a "horrible" or frustrating story at all but a story of nature at work. Lighten up people. I too want to thank Kine for posting.
Los Gatos -
This kitten is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute. I love those big eyes.
Mack -
omg 2 cuteeeee 4 wurdz! ^-^

Responsibility people. This is the perfect place to point out proper animal care. Kudos to the people willing to point this out, and earn the wrath of the pollyannas.
wokkawokka -
This isn't a sad story, Mio is a little Miracle Kitten!
KIKI -
Save your praise for people who really save animals from shelters
Cali -
WOW I'm glad you folks weren't around after I had my baby. At 38 I was an 'old' mom too...and tired to the max. Should I be sterilized? wokka's right Mio is a miracle. a fuzzy miracle
Karen -
I usually agree that the pics are adorable, but this seems sad. I'm not seeing any miracle here.

hello pretty big eyes. U R a sweetie
Jill -
Cali, I'm pretty sure most of can see the difference between sterilizing a cat a human. Keep the arguments realistic.
Bonnie -
So you think the kitten is less than beautiful because you don't like the story? Are you insane?
Cali -
Sarcasm isn't exactly your strong suit is it, Jill?
Hans -
I don't think anyone is saying the kitten isn't beautiful. I just think they are saying that more people should spay or neuter their animals. What is wrong with that?
Charlie -
GOOD ONE, CALI. The cat's really cute. And I subscribe to see cute cats not to read sermons.

love love love! this posture... and in front of a fire too! true trust and relaxation
Charlie -
Well Karen said she usually agrees the pics are adorable but that this seems sad. So the story must be overshadowing the picture. And so if that's what she's saying then yes, I see a lot wrong with it.
KitKat -
I love this kitten. I don't know which pic is my favorite.

If everybody spayed and neutered, there would be NO KITTENS to see on the Daily Kitten. We'd all be clicking on pictures of somebody's trip to friggin' Vegas. No thanks.

As a former ASPCA worker, I can assure you all, after the horrors I have seen, there is no shortage of kittens in this world. If only they all got a chance to grow up and become part of a loving family. No I also have to "preach" the gospel of spay/neuter. Most of the kittens I saw who were put to sleep, would have taken beautiful pictures too if only they had been given the chance.

From Cornell University College of Veterinary Web site: "Pet overpopulation is the number one welfare issue facing cats and dogs in the United States, and it affects diverse geographic regions and cultures worldwide with very few exceptions. In Sweden, Norway and Germany - where the unquestioned societal norm for pet owners is to control their pets' reproduction - pet overpopulation does not exist."

http://www.vet.cornell.edu/maddiesfun...

The poster said they live in Norway. Pet overpopulation does not exist there. Besides, clearly the poster's family kept both the mother and its baby as members of the family. There's no way of knowing how a cat will react to a pregnancy in general. People should not be so judgmental especially if they haven't done their research.

Kine, your cats are all beautiful and clearly well loved and cared for. Thanks for posting such beautiful photos. We love Mio!!!!

Mio is so beautiful, she looks like she loves life and certainly is a bit spoiled but isn't that what we all do to our babies like Mio.she is just so precious. Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures. One just wants to take her and give her tons of love.

Thank you, Bailey, for your comment.

Such a darling little face and a sweet story for Mio.

Stop nagging. What is done is done.

Due to the age of the older mother cat, a spay would wise. The next set of kittens should kill the mother. It is time for her to be a REAL cat, not a mother cat. She needs to relax into senior life with warm laps, fresh baskets, senior food, and LOTS of TLC.

Thank you Bailey for setting the record straight. I, like others, log in to see cute kitten pictures. I'm sure Kine wouldn't have let Mia get pregnant if she thought it would hurt Mia or her kittens. Spay/neuter is the way to go for us in the US but Mio was obviously wanted and is deeply loved. Isn't that what it is all about? A sweet, adorable, loving kitty in a caring, adoring home.

Thank you for the beautiful pictures of Mio and your story of her.

I agree with cat person. I'd rather see kittens then Vegas photos. Plus, if everyone spayed/neutered their cats then there wouldn't even be any cats to adopt from shelters except for strays. Yay for the kitties.

This is one precious picure. How many kittens get the privilege of not only having their Mommy to grow up with (and not be given away at 8 weeks), but also their GRANDMA? This is one very well cared for kitten! I am half Norwegian, I am proud that Norway has no pet overpopulation problem!

This is a website for looking at kittens not to give advice. Maybe it was just an accident? Maybe she was too old to spay? I think they are beautiful. Thank you for posting. People need to lighten up and get off your high horses.
Maxillius -
To those of you accusing animal abuse:

Perhaps you would think differently if it was a 45-50 year old woman giving birth? Would you think it would be ok to abort the child?

morons.

I just adore cats; but Brian's thoughts should be taken into consideration. We who do love cats, have all read the sad stories; about unwanted cats. Most of what we see on this page are happy stories, we all know, there is a flip side to this story. In the words of Bob Barker, don't forget to spay or neuter your pets.
Mary -
Hey Erin,
Strays need good homes too. All three of my cats are strays who were no longer kittens when I adopted them. People like you who only adopt for cuteness make me sick. All animals deserve love. Even those who are no longer babies or cute. Great pictures Kine. Mio is a beautiful cat. But you probably should spay Mia to save her health.
Lenore -
Hey Bailey says that pet overpopulation is not an issue in Sweden and Norway. Why don't we ship all of our unwanted pets over there? Then we a Americans wouldn't have to feel so guilty and that stupid Sarah McLachlan commercial would stop playing and I wouldn't have to change the channel and then remember to change it back to watch my programs. Problem solved.

Kine -
First of all I would like to say Thank You so much to all of you for these amazing comments! Mio is the best cat in the world, and I'm glad to hear that other people like her to.
Second, I would like to clear up the misconception about Mia. She was a perfectly healthy cat before the pregnancy, and wasn't as old as some of you seem to think. After the birth we agreed that this should be her last litter, and took her to the vet. Today she is as happy as a cat could be!
